Why Wall Street?

If there is something I love doing, it is trying to know why this,why that, where something comes from...

I know we have been hearing a lot about Wall Street those days and History is kind of ironic when you look at it closer:

When the Dutch arrived to the new continent in the late 17th Century, they called the place they found "New Amsterdam" and built a wall to protect themselves from any attack.

Some people say that the name Wall Street comes from that wall that was then re-inforced ans kept by the British for some time. Other people will tell you tht it comes from the former Dutch name Waal Straat designating the Wallonite inhabitants.

I think it is both.
Anyway, there is no more wall today.
I mean at least physically but that is another story...
